FOR A SMARTER FLANDERS
Welcome to VSC
VSC is the Flanders' most highly integrated high-performance research computing environment, providing world-class services to government, industry, and researchers.
Today, HPC usage by large companies is widespread in the areas of manufacturing, aerospace, oil & gas, life sciences, and information technology. The classical usage for HPC is advanced 3D modeling and simulation, which is understandable when building things that need to fit together in assemblies and systems
In today’s world, larger and larger amounts of data are constantly being generated. The nature of computing is changing, with an increasing number of data-intensive critical applications: by 2020, 25 billion devices will be connected and will generate over two zettabytes of traffic every year.
HPC drives scientific research and enables innovations. Scientists use HPC to build models of complex phenomena. They require fast supercomputers in order to resolve problems in the areas of Life Sciences, Physics, Climateresearch, Engineering and many others.
HPC applications often require high network performance, fast storage, large amounts of memory, very high compute capabilities, or all of these. HPC enables you to increase the speed of research and reduce time-to-results by running HPC in the cloud and scaling to larger numbers of parallel tasks than would be practical in most on-premises environments.
The VSC encourages the use of scientific and technical computing in the Flemish academic and industrial landscape. To this end, it offers infrastructure, training and services. In addition, VSC acts as a lever to promote the importance of scientific and technical computing and its added value to society.
VSC offers services and infrastructure. This is not always limited to the consumption of computing time and associated standard user support (including training), but occasionally also involves a more comprehensive service, such as specific software optimization.
The Flemish Supercomputer Center (Vlaams Supercomputer Centrum - VSC) brings together know-how in scientific and technical computing in Flanders, via a partnership between five Flemish university associations and managed by the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO).
