About the Event
C++ is a modern, object-oriented programming language that is used to build industry strength applications when performance and reliability are important. The language has a reputation of being challenging to use, but for scientific programming, a core set of features is sufficient for most programming tasks.  In this training, we will concentrate on that feature set.  Although the scope is scientific programming, most of the material presented in Bjarne Stroustrup's excellent "A tour of C++" is covered, as well as some addition introduced in the C++14 specification. The STL (Standard Template Library) will be covered in some detail since selecting the appropriate data structures and algorithms is one of the most important design decisions.
We will see that C++ code can be compact, straightforward, elegant and fun to write, and is a very useful programming language for more demanding applications. Hands-on and programming challenges will be provided.
Previous knowledgeThis is an intermediate-level training for those who know how to program with a reasonable level of proficiency.
