"Hortense" is our new Supercomputer!

The new Tier-1 supercomputer is nicknamed "Hortense", after Nicole-Reine Lepaute, one of the first famous human "computers". The supercomputer which will be introduced at the University of Ghent at the end of this year, will be one of the 500 fastest supercomputers in the world.


Ghent University has signed a framework contract with Atos for a period of six years and for a value of more than 10 million euros to supply the next Tier-1 supercomputer for the Flemish Supercomputer Center VSC. The new Tier-1 supercomputer will be equipped with BullSequana XH2000 technology. It will have 44,000 cores, 80 graphical processing units, 100 TB RAM memory + 3 PB storage capacity. When in full swing, the supercomputer can achieve up to 3.3 petaflops, or 3,300,000,000,000,000 operations per second.
