Nieuwe Vlaamse supercomputer scoort hoog in internationale ranking

Het Vlaams Supercomputer Centrum (VSC) is erg trots dat de nieuwe Vlaamse rekencluster opgenomen werd op plaats 118 in de wereldwijde Top500 rangschikking van supercomputers (editie juni 2012). Op dit moment wordt deze rekencluster geïnstalleerd aan de Universiteit Gent. Het VSC kijkt samen met alle Vlaamse onderzoekers reikhalzend uit naar de ingebruikname die voorzien is voor het derde kwartaal van 2012.

Vlaams SupercomputerCentrum, UGent en HP bouwen grootste Vlaamse supercomputer

De Universiteit Gent heeft na een beperkte offerteaanvraag met Europese bekendmaking, in opdracht van en in samenspraak met het Vlaams Supercomputer Centrum (VSC), voor HP gekozen om de eerste Vlaamse Supercomputer te bouwen. De cluster van computers wordt het grootste academische rekensysteem in Vlaanderen. Het aangeboden High Performance Computing systeem met een prijskaartje van om en bij de 4,2 miljoen euro, wordt op basis van de Top 500 lijst van november 2011 meteen ook de grootste supercomputer van België.
